Notice to Residents - Strike Action
“Notice to Residents – Strike Action Update #1
We are writing to provide an update to Residents.
As anticipated, Operating Engineers of Manitoba Local 987 (“OEM 987”) commenced strike action at 6:00 am on Monday, February 23, 2026. Although the Municipality and OEM 987 have worked closely to reach a new collective agreement over many months of productive collective bargaining negotiations, the parties have been at an impasse over the few remaining outstanding items.
The Municipality values its employees and recognizes the importance of the services it provides.
The Municipality also respects the right of its employees to strike as part of the collective bargaining process. Members of the public may experience delays when accessing the municipal office building or facilities and disruption in some of the services provided. This is a consequence of the employee’s exercising their right to strike.
The mediator that worked with the parties during the later stages of negotiations continues to be engaged with the parties. We will continue to work toward a resolution for a new collective agreement that is fair and reasonable, balancing the interests of employees and residents of the Municipality.
