The Rural Municipality of Taché has an extensive fleet of heavy equipment and a knowledgeable, skilled and proficient public works department staff.  Ongoing operations such as gravel, dust control, snow clearing and grading of municipal roads are managed by the department manager and carried out by the department staff.  Special projects such as drainage works and the priority route upgrades are identified each year by the Public Works Committee according to priority and are undertaken in accordance with the annual financial plan.
 
The department consists of the Public Works Manager and 10 full time equipment operators dedicated to the rural area.  Public works activities in the Local Urban Districts are provided by 1 staff in Lorette and 1 staff member in Landmark.  Public Works staff are augmented as required with seasonal or casual help as required.
 
The Public Works Department is responsible for:
  • Construction and maintenance of roads, including:
    • Snow and ice removal and winter sanding
    • Road grading
    • Dust control application
  • Maintenance of right of ways including:
    • Mowing
    • Drainage and municipal culvert repairs
  • Traffic signage

Did you know?

It takes RM staff about 18 hours to open all Municipal roads after an average snowstorm. 

One steamer in the rural area can steam between 10-12 culverts per day.
